The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) have reached an agreement to hold, in March 2024, a friendly that reinforces the commitment of both entities against racism and violence in football. The initiative will also serve to intensify the good relations that already exist.
The match will be played on Spanish soil between two of the most powerful teams on the international stage.
“The fight against racism and violence in football must be a universal banner. At CBF, we work tirelessly to fight all types of discrimination, inside and outside the camps. This action, in partnership with my friend Luis Rubiales, president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, will be important to further reinforce the need to fight racism vehemently, in every corner of the planet “said the president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues.
Luis Rubiales, president of the RFEF, was the one who led, after the last episodes that affected Vinicius, the campaign “Racistas, fuera del fútbol” in Spain, with which it is intended to eradicate racist and xenophobic attitudes from the football fields, drawing attention to from fans that insults or discriminatory attitudes are not tolerable for whatever reason.
The president of the Federation met at Ciudad del Fútbol, in Las Rozas, with Orlando Leite, ambassador of Brazil in Spain, and has maintained frequent contact with the president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues. The two directors understood that it was a great opportunity to strengthen ties and promote unity against violence in football with the holding of the friendly.
It will be the tenth clash between the two teams, who have not faced each other since the 2013 Confederations Cup final, when Canarinho won 3-0. Of the nine previous duels, Brazil won five, drew two and lost two. There are 14 goals in favor and eight against.
