Hundreds of people participated, this Tuesday (20), in the 16th edition of the National March for Life and against Abortion at the Esplanada dos Ministérios, in Brasília. Promoted by the Movimento Brasil sem Aborto and with the theme “Life Always”, the march aims to make authorities aware of the importance of defending life from conception.
Protesters are calling for the rejection of ADPF 442, which is being processed by the Federal Supreme Court, and the approval of the Statute of the Unborn Child (PL 478/2007), which has been awaiting a vote in the Women’s Commission of the Chamber of Deputies since 2017.
“Just as there are statutes for children and adolescents, people with disabilities and the elderly, and even those for fans, it is urgent that Brazilian legislation also has the support of the Statute of the Unborn Child, complementing the other norms and guaranteeing protection at all stages of human life”, highlights the president of the Brazil without Abortion Movement, Lenise Garcia.
In the morning, in the Chamber of Deputies, a tribute ceremony was held to entities and personalities that stood out in actions to support motherhood and in the area of defense of life. A People’s Gazette was one of the entities honored for having in its convictions the defense of life from conception.
“We need men and women who have the courage to defend life from conception and the family. We cannot be afraid”, said Deputy Diego Garcia (Republicanos-PR), during the ceremony.
For deputy Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG), the fight against abortion is “hidden and omnipresent”, but Brazil needs to show “that we are not an abortionist country and we defend life from conception”.
