Federal Deputy Guilherme Boulos (PSOL-SP) will donate to Father Julio Lancellotti the equivalent of the moving allowance granted to parliamentarians at the beginning of their term for their trip to Brasília. The value is R$ 28.4 thousand.
The idea is that the money will help pay for the parish priest’s social work on behalf of the homeless population in the city of São Paulo.
“Nothing fairer than symbolically directing this value [R$ 28,4 mil] to the commendable social work of Father Julio. The solution to the abandonment of the homeless population depends on public policies, but solidarity actions are fundamental in the short term”, says Boulos, who is leader of the PSOL group in the Chamber of Deputies.
Pedagogue, Father Julio was one of the founders of Pastoral da Criança and one of the formulators of the ECA (Statute for Children and Adolescents).
At the head of the Pastoral do Povo da Rua de São Paulo, he became known for defending homeless people against oppression, negligence and violence.
During the pandemic, the priest expanded this role, with special emphasis on providing food. The performance earned him a phone call from Pope Francis.
