Boulos allies say PT affiliation is not discussed – 04/24/2023 – Panel

Allies of federal deputy Guilherme Boulos claim that the possibility of leaving the PSOL and joining the PT to run for São Paulo City Hall in 2024 is not considered.

As the Panel showed, PT councilors delivered a letter to Gleisi Hoffmann, president of the party, asking her to try to convince the leader of the MTST (Movement of Homeless Workers) to make the migration of the initials.

The psolista allies claim that he does not want to be a candidate of the party alone, but of a front of leftist associations, with PT, PCdoB and PSOL so far, and that he intends to build a government program with the participation of all those involved in the plate.

However, they point out that the exchange of subtitles was never at stake in the agreement he made with Lula (PT) in 2022, when he gave up his candidacy for the Government of São Paulo to support Fernando Haddad, today Minister of Finance.

In a letter delivered to Gleisi, the eight councilors say that they learned of the agreement through the press and through internal party conversations, and that this decision could negatively impact the strength of the PT in the city and the candidates for City Council in 2024.

If Boulos is supported as a PSOL affiliate, they point out that it will be the first time since the founding of the PT that the party will not have a majority candidacy in the capital. Therefore, they ask that the National Board of the party makes an effort to assemble a competitive list of councilors in 2024, “attracting representative figures with the guarantee of support for the campaigns.”

The councilors also ask for a significant reinforcement in party and electoral funds for the councilors’ plate in São Paulo, as the absence of their own candidacy, if it materializes, will bring a real risk of decreasing the bench in a scenario in which it could be increased, they argue.

The letter also claims the nomination of the deputy on the Boulos ticket, participation in the construction of the government program and in eventual municipal management, and Lula’s active participation in the campaign (with availability for recording audiovisual material).
