Bolsonaro’s former defense minister praised by Mercadante – 02/22/2024 – Panel

The president of BNDES (National Bank for Economic and Social Development), Aloizio Mercadante, praised this Thursday (22) General Fernando Azevedo e Silva, former Minister of Defense of Jair Bolsonaro (PL), and stated that the soldier left with his head held high from his briefcase.

Mercadante made the statement in a speech during the inauguration of former executive secretary of the Ministry of Justice Ricardo Cappelli as president of ABDI (Brazilian Agency for Industrial Development).

When greeting the ministers present, the president of BNDES said that he also wanted to greet an ex, “because we only greet those who are present and don’t talk about exes.”

“I wanted to salute General Fernando, who was Defense Commander and who left the ministry with dignity. And today you are here with your head held high, while others are there testifying for an attempted coup that this country will not accept,” he stated , in reference to the statement given this Thursday by Bolsonaro to the Federal Police about the plans discussed for a coup against the election of Lula (PT) to the Presidency.

“So congratulations to you and the commanders of the Forces, who came out with you and showed Brazil that it has to separate the RG from the CNPJ”, continued Mercadante. “We have to punish the coup plotters and preserve the institution.”

Azevedo e Silva was fired by Bolsonaro in 2021. At the time, the explanation was that he did not agree with the radicalization of the military advocated by the then president.
