Bolsonaro will be heard by a PF delegate from São Paulo; see who you are – 05/04/2023 – Power

Former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) will be questioned this Wednesday (5) in the investigation into Saudi Arabian jewelry by two Federal Police delegates.

The delegate Adalto Machado, responsible for the investigation at the São Paulo PF, and another from the DIP (Police Intelligence Directorate), a sector located in the corporation’s central building, in Brasília, will lead the hearing.

Machado has been conducting the case since the initiation of the inquiry at the Police Station for Repression of Treasury Crimes of the São Paulo PF.

He is respected within the corporation and has conducted complex investigations of money laundering and embezzlement of public funds.

One of the biggest conducted by him was Descarte, whose first phase was triggered in 2018 as an offshoot of Operation Lava Jato in São Paulo.

Based on suspicious transactions with the money changer Alberto Yousseff’s group, the PF arrived at a broad money laundering scheme through a network of front companies used to issue cold bills.

Among other fraudulent operations, the companies targeted by the investigation were coordinated by operators who provided money in cash for payments to public agents warmed up in contracts with shell companies.

The group, concludes the operation, were specialists in “architecting sophisticated schemes for tax evasion, financial crimes and money laundering”.

The investigation had several developments and pointed to evidence of crimes in contracts involving companies contracted by various public entities.

The delegate also acted in cases directly related to Lava Jato, some arising from the award-winning collaboration agreement of Odebrecht executives who stayed in the PF of the capital of São Paulo.

Machado will listen to Bolsonaro, Colonel Mauro Cid and other people to advance the investigation into the jewels received in October 2021 by the entourage led by then Minister Bento Albuquerque.

The group brought two jewelry cases. One of them was seized by the Federal Revenue during an inspection at the Guarulhos airport, which is why the verification is in São Paulo

A soldier who advised the then Minister of Mines and Energy tried to enter the country with luxury items in his backpack. As they had not been declared, the goods were seized by the Federal Revenue – the case was revealed by the newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo.

A second package, which includes a watch, pen, cufflinks, a ring and a type of rosary, all also from the Swiss diamond brand Chopard and later delivered to Bolsonaro, was not intercepted by the Revenue, as shown by the Sheet.

An official receipt recorded the delivery of this second set to the Presidency in November 2022, to compose the former president’s personal collection.

The former minister reported in a statement that the second case entered the country with him before being delivered to the Presidency.

At first, Bolsonaro said he had neither asked for nor received any kind of jewelry gift from the Saudi Arabian government.

On Thursday (30), upon returning to Brazil after 89 days in the United States, Bolsonaro confirmed that he had received the jewelry and linked the gift to the friendship he built with the government of Saudi Arabia.

He also confirmed that part of the gifts were for First Lady Michelle Bolsonaro and the attempt at the end of the term to recover the jewels in Guarulhos.

“We delivered the first set that arrived at the Presidency there. I registered it. And, trying to recover the other set from Michelle, it was via letter, it was not in the big hand. I don’t know why all this wave. If they are thinking of it as something I did wrong, I’m even happy, there’s nothing to accuse me of”, he said.
