Bolsonaro testifies about jewelry at the PF for about 3 hours

Former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) testified this Wednesday (5) for about three hours at the headquarters of the Federal Police (PF), in Brasília. He was asked about jewelry kits received from the Saudi Arabian government on an official visit to the country during his term.

The content of the testimony is confidential and has not been disclosed, informed Agência Brasil. Another nine people, who would be involved with the case, also gave testimonies. Bolsonaro arrived at the PF headquarters at 2:20 pm and left the building around 5:30 pm.

Bolsonaro’s former Communications Secretary, Fabio Wajngarten, said that the former representative answered all the questions asked by the PF.

“President Jair Bolsonaro’s testimony took place in an absolutely peaceful manner, having responded to all inquiries made by the PF. It was a great opportunity to clarify the facts”, said Wajngarten in the twitterright after the deposition.

Security at the PF headquarters was strengthened

For Bolsonaro’s testimony, the area in front of the PF was isolated and a strong security scheme was set up with men from the corporation and the Military Police. There was no demonstration of supporters in front of the building.

There were testimonies in other states, the assistant to the former Chief Executive, Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, for example, gave testimony at the PF Superintendence in São Paulo, where the inquiry is being processed.

Jewelry was returned by Bolsonaro’s defense

Bolsonaro received three jewelry cases. The existence of the first was disclosed by a report by “Estado de S. Paulo” on March 4th. According to the newspaper, the Bolsonaro government tried to bring to Brazil, without paying taxes, a set consisting of a necklace, a ring, a watch, a pair of earrings and a diamond watch by the Swiss brand Chopard.

This first jewelry case would be worth around R$16.5 million. However, the items were seized by federal revenue auditors when the presidential motorcade disembarked.

This Tuesday (4), Bolsonaro’s defense team reported having returned the third box of jewelry received from Saudi Arabia in 2019. The delivery took place at a Caixa Econômica Federal branch, in Brasília, and complied with a determination by the Federal Audit Court (TCU).

Bolsonaro’s lawyers had already returned the second case, also by order of the TCU, which contains a watch, a pen, cufflinks, a ring and a type of rosary, also from the Swiss brand Chopard, valued at R$500,000.
