Brasilia DF) – Former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) told Federal Police agents this Wednesday (12) that he never had a close relationship with Senator Marcos do Val (Podemos-ES). The parliamentarian is investigated for alleged articulation for an attempted coup d’état.
The former president was heard by the Federal Police after Marcos do Val mentioned Bolsonaro’s name in WhatsApp conversations.
The former president told PF agents what he had already said to people close to him: that he never received or met with Senator Marcos do Val throughout his term; that the two did not have the slightest proximity and that they only met on December 8, 2022 because the senator was taken by former deputy Daniel Silveira, and that the meeting took place because he always responded to requests for meetings from parliamentarians.
Jair Bolsonaro also stated that at the meeting in December, no non-republican issue was addressed, nor any “tabajara” plan against Minister Alexandre de Moraes, and that days later, upon becoming aware of the ideas of Senator Marcos do Val, through message from the senator himself, he replied: “A crazy thing”.
In December 2022, Senator Marcos do Val paid a visit to Jair Bolsonaro at the Alvorada Palace, the official residence of the President of the Republic in Brasília, together with Daniel Silveira (PTB-RJ).
In February of this year, the senator told the press that the then president was silent during the meeting in which Daniel Silveira proposed a coup d’état.
Do Val said that Jair Bolsonaro was listening along with him as Daniel spoke about a “mission that could save Brazil”. He said it was clear that Silveira was trying to convince both of them about the plan.
