After more than 30 years as a regular presence at military graduations, former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) decided not to participate in these ceremonies.
Allies of the former president claim that the objective is to prevent his presence from sounding like a provocation. The involvement of members of the Armed Forces in the coup acts of January 8 is one of the targets of the CPI on the subject.
It was at an event at Aman (Academia das Agulhas Negras) in 2014 that Bolsonaro spoke for the first time as a presidential candidate. Next Sunday (2), there will be a graduation ceremony at the Parachute Brigade, the unit in which Bolsonaro served and the one he most identifies with. The former president is confirmed absence.
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) has also not attended military graduation events.
