Former President Bolsonaro called the text of the tax reform “a real punch in the stomach of the poorest”
Brasilia DF) – Former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) arranges for his party’s deputies to vote unitedly against the text of the tax reform, which is being discussed in the Chamber this week. Supported by the Lula government (PT), the proposed amendment to the Constitution that aims to simplify the Brazilian tax system has among its supporters the mayor, Arthur Lira (PP-AL).
In a note released this Tuesday (4), Bolsonaro called the reform “a real punch in the stomach of the poorest”.
According to Bolsonaro, the “PT proposal absurdly increases taxes on the basic food basket (rice, sugar, oil, potatoes, beans, flour, etc.)”. The former president also criticized the proposal to selectively tax products that are harmful to health or the environment, such as cigarettes, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages.
“The PEC also removes the investment capacity of the states and subtracts resources from the municipalities. It concentrates such resources in the Union where their release would be subject to a Council composed of ‘companions’”, says the note released by Bolsonaro.
When closing the note released this Tuesday, which brings information about tax cuts in his government, Bolsonaro said that “the president of the PL and its leader in the Chamber of Deputies will forward, together with their 99 deputies, for the total rejection of the PEC of the Tax Reform ”.
