Bolsonaro says Moraes is winning the search to dismiss him from politics

Former president states that “at the moment Moraes is winning, but everything in this life is dynamic”

Brasilia DF) – Former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) said this Friday (3) that the intention of STF minister Alexandre de Moraes is to eliminate him from politics and that, “at the moment”, the minister is being victorious.

Bolsonaro also stated that he is “seeing” what the strategy will be regarding whether or not to appeal the second conviction he suffered at the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) last Tuesday (31), this time for electoral use of the Bicentenary of Independence on the 7th of September 2022. There is also a fine of R$425.6 thousand.

“That’s what I usually say: do you fight at home with your wife and go to your mother-in-law? We are seeing what our strategy is, although there is no strategy. Strategy is what Alexandre de Moraes wants. And we know what he wants. It’s getting rid of politics”,

said the former president after being questioned by Folha de S. Paulo.

Bolsonaro was in Santos, on the coast of São Paulo, where he participated in the delivery of vehicles to the 6th Fire Brigade.

Bolsonaro also said that “at the moment he [Moraes] He is winning, but everything in this life is dynamic.”

Moraes, in addition to being president of the TSE, is a minister of the Federal Supreme Court, where he acts as rapporteur of inquiries that have Bolsonaro and his allies in their sights. The main one concerns those responsible for the coup attacks on January 8th. Bolsonaro enters into this as a supposed intellectual author.

Bolsonaro must still respond to inquiries and a series of processes in various instances of the Brazilian Judiciary, in addition to other actions in the Electoral Court.

Most of the questions come from Bolsonaro’s attitudes during his term, including his behavior during the Covid-19 pandemic, in addition to investigations in the digital militias inquiry and even statements made before arriving at Planalto, when he was a federal deputy.

Last week, the former president and General Walter Braga Netto, who was his candidate for vice last year, were condemned by 5 votes to 2 by the TSE.

Bolsonaro was already prevented from running for eight years due to a previous conviction in the TSE itself, also by 5 to 2, in the case of his lies and his attacks on the electoral system in the meeting with ambassadors in 2022.

The former president, who is 68 years old, will only be able to run again in 2030, at the age of 75, therefore being excluded from three elections until then (one of them being the national one in 2026). Braga Netto, who is ineligible until 2030, said on Wednesday (1) that he will appeal the decision, which, for him, includes a fine of R$212,800.
