Bolsonaro says meeting with ambassadors was to present proposals to democracy

Former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), who will have the trial of a lawsuit at the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) resumed this Thursday (29), said that the meeting he promoted with ambassadors in July last year had as its objective ” present proposals to improve what is the soul of democracy”.
The statement was given when leaving for Rio de Janeiro, where he will have commitments throughout the day, shortly before the start of the session at the Electoral Court. The former president stated that the defense of the auditable printed vote was not his proposal alone, but that parliamentarians have already suggested the same in years past – even former deputy José Dirceu (PT), in 1999.
“José Dirceu presented a project in the Chamber creating a commission to monitor electronic voting”, he said, also remembering that he proposed a similar project in 2017, and that the PDT itself, which moved the current action in progress at the TSE, has also already advocated the adoption of printed voting.
Bolsonaro also said that he held the meeting with ambassadors after Minister Edson Fachin, of the STF, also promoted a meeting with foreign representatives two months earlier.
“What is the problem with presenting proposals to improve what is the soul of democracy, that we can give the population the guarantee that the elections were transparent”, he questioned.
The former president also said that he has a “silver bullet” for the 2026 elections – but that he cannot reveal yet – and that he has not spoken with Minister Kássio Nunes Marques, his nominee for the STF, about the trial at the TSE . Bolsonaro hopes that one of the magistrates will ask for a review of the action, which could prolong the court’s decision on the ineligibility request.
