Bolsonaro says he will seek Senate if he becomes eligible again and paves the way for Tarcísio – 07/13/2023 – Panel

Declared ineligible by the TSE (Superior Electoral Court), Jair Bolsonaro (PL) has emphasized to allies that even if he manages to reverse the decision, he will not seek the Presidency again and will try to vacate in the Senate.
One of the fears debated by the group of allies of the former president and Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos-SP) is that Justice will return Bolsonaro’s eligibility in the midst of an electoral growth process for the governor of São Paulo for 2026, which then it could be stopped.
In this scenario, depending on the timing, Tarcísio could give up a potentially promising presidential candidacy to a weakened Bolsonaro after a period of ineligibility, who would then perhaps lose to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) or another federal government candidate.
The Bolsonarist group calculates that, with Bolsonaro signaling that he has no intention of trying to resume the Presidency, voters will begin to pay progressively more attention to the former minister. Despite the public disagreement regarding the Tax Reform, Bolsonaro and Tarcísio have declared that they consider the episode to be over.
As the Panel revealed, Bolsonaro outlines the plan to be leader of a group in the Senate composed of his closest circle of allies. The sons Eduardo (SP) and Flávio (RJ) and former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro (DF), all from the PL, would be part of the nucleus, as well as senators who are already there, such as Damares Alves (Republicanos-DF), Jorge Seif (PL-SC) and Marcos Pontes (PL-SP).
