Bolsonaro says he sees no crime in the Marcos do Val case – 02/02/2023 – Politics

Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) stated that he sees no crime in the meeting between his father, Jair Bolsonaro (PL), his colleague, Marcos do Val (Podemos-ES), and the arrested former deputy, Daniel Silveira, in which a plan was discussed to carry out an illegal wiretap against Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF (Federal Supreme Court).

Do Val, in turn, said that, after the revelation of the case and his announcement that he would leave politics, he received several calls from other parliamentarians asking him not to resign from his mandate, including from the former president’s son —that the would have invited to your party.

He also stated that he received calls not only from Flávio, but also from Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), Davi Alcolumbre (União Brasil-AP), Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), Weverton (PSD-MA), Sergio Moro (União Brasil-PR) and Eliziane Gama (PSD-MA).

In the Senate plenary, Flávio Bolsonaro confirmed the meeting between Do Val, his father, Jair Bolsonaro, and Daniel Silveira, in which the former deputy proposed a plan to illegally record Alexandre de Moraes and obtain a confession that he would have disrespected the Constitution and their judgments.

The senator from Rio de Janeiro said that the case needs to be clarified, but said he did not see a crime.

“He had already told me what had happened, that this would be made public. However, in line with the fact that this meeting that took place would be an attempt by a parliament [Silveira] to deter the people who were in the meeting from doing something absolutely unacceptable, absurd and illegal. So what I ask here is that all clarifications be made,” he said.

“And I don’t even say opening an inquiry, because the situation that was narrated does not constitute any kind of crime. But that all clarifications are made so that narratives do not remain on top of narratives in order to overcome the facts. On December 31, President Bolsonaro left the presidency,” he added.

The case was cited by several anti-Bolsonarist senators in the context of the coup acts of January 8 and the draft found in the house of the former Minister of Justice, Anderson Torres, currently in prison.

Humberto Costa (PT) said that, if proven, this would be the most serious case in this context.

“If this information brought by Marcos do Val is true, […] we have very strong indications of the direct participation of the President of the Republic [Jair Bolsonaro, na tentativa de golpe]”, he stated.

“[O caso] brings the missing elements to ask for the indictment of the former President of the Republic for attacking the State. Therefore, we will propose that the senator’s testimony be collected in the investigation of anti-democratic acts”, said, in turn, Senator Randolfe Rodrigues (Rede-AP).

The leader of the government in the Chamber, José Guimarães (PT-CE), said this Thursday (2) that he took a “scare” when he saw the news related to Marcos do Val and defended that this topic has nothing to do with the government and that it is up to Justice to analyze the situation.

A message attributed to former federal deputy Daniel Silveira, arrested this Thursday by the Federal Police by order of the STF, suggests a coup plan to record Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court. The message would have been sent to Senator Marcos do Val (Podemos-ES).

“Since we had little time, I did not pass on what I understand as a guideline for you to adapt in your own way. However, I already have bugs used by special operations. I have a receiving vehicle that can immediately reproduce in addition to the recording and this operation is restricted to a circle of 5 people. Three were sitting today talking together. If you accept the mission, paraphrasing 01, we save Brazil”, says the text of the message attributed to Silveira.

Do Val told Sheet who received the message after a conversation with Silveira and former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL). The parliamentarian cannot say the date, but he says that it occurred after the results of the elections and before the diplomacy of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), on December 12th.

Do Val reports that he was on the Senate floor when Silveira called him outside and said that former President Bolsonaro wanted to speak with him. The senator then says that Bolsonaro asked if the two could meet in person – which happened, according to him, a few days later.

The senator claims that, in that meeting before Bolsonaro, Silveira proposed that he record the Supreme Minister and try to get some contradiction out of him that could later arrest him. The plan, according to him, would trigger a rupture to the point of Lula not assuming the Presidency.

This Thursday, at dawn, Do Val made a live broadcast on social networks stating that Veja magazine would publish a report showing that Bolsonaro tried to coerce him to “take a coup d’état together with him”.

To Folha, the senator gives another version. Do Val claims that Bolsonaro heard the proposal, but was silent and only spoke at the end of the meeting, saying that he would think about it.

“[Bolsonaro] just listened along with me, then I asked the questions. The question of legality, and why. Then, when it was time to leave, the only thing the president said was the following: Let’s think about it,” he told the report.
