Bolsonaro: Defense fears running into the door and charges Caixa – 03/22/2023 – Mônica Bergamo

Lawyers for Jair Bolsonaro (PL) are already trying to contact Caixa Econômica Federal to confirm which server will be able to receive the jewels presented to the former representative by Saudi Arabia and which, by determination of the Federal Audit Court (TCU), must be returned .

Until Tuesday (21), the court of accounts had not specified the address or the sector that would receive the luxury items. The same happened with the weapons brought by the former president of the Middle East – and which were also requested.

Bolsonaro’s defense stated that it was ready to follow TCU’s determination and deliver the items, but that it did not know where to take them.

This Wednesday, it was decided that the jewels should be taken to Caixa agency 210, located in Brasília. The weapons, in turn, will be under the custody of the PF Administrative Police Directorate, at the corporation’s headquarters building, in the federal capital.

Attempts to contact Bolsonaro’s defense with Caixa, however, have not yet been successful: by call, a server would have informed the lawyers that public service was closed at 3 pm this Wednesday (22).

On another front, the former president’s defense demands that the case’s rapporteur at the TCU, Minister Augusto Nardes, confirm that both the Caixa Econômica and the Federal Police have been notified of the decision.

“The defense is waiting for confirmation that the bodies assigned to receive the goods have been informed by the TCU that they should receive them”, says lawyer Paulo Amador da Cunha Bueno. Caution, according to him, would be necessary to avoid “finding your face in the door” of the bank.

Another obstacle for the delivery of jewelry and weapons to be carried out still on Thursday (23), according to the lawyer, is the need for the Army to issue a new special traffic document. The document ensures that the transport of weapons is done legally.

A first version of the letter listed, in a generic way, the names of the Planalto Palace, the Três Poderes square and the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic. It is not yet known when the new guide with the address of the PF headquarters building will be ready.

Jair Bolsonaro won a pistol and a rifle from representatives of the United Arab Emirates in 2019, during an official trip to the Middle East. The rifle was customized with his name, according to information published by the Metrópoles website.

The jewels that the former president now makes available were brought by the entourage led by the then Minister of Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque, on a trip to that country in 2021.

A case with part of the items was incorporated into the personal collection of the then president. It contained a watch, pen, cufflinks, a type of rosary and a Swiss brand Chopard ring.

The return of weapons and jewelry was determined by the TCU last week. The measure was taken unanimously by the six ministers of the court of accounts who voted in the session.
