Bolsonaro criticizes the trial and believes he will not be convicted by the TSE

Former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) said this Friday (23) that he does not believe in a conviction in the process brought by the PDT that began to be judged this week by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), which accuses him of abuse of political power by account of the meeting held with ambassadors in July last year in Brasília.

In an interview with Rádio Gaúcha in Porto Alegre, where he has been participating since Thursday (22) in events with businessmen, Bolsonaro criticized the judgment at the Electoral Court and questioned the reasons given by the party.

“Why can’t you criticize the voting system, my God in heaven? What democracy is this? That if you talk about voting, talking about a vaccine, or talking about that censorship project now, which is under discussion in Congress, you could be arrested ”, he said.

Bolsonaro once again asked the TSE ministers to carry out a “fair trial” following the same jurisprudence adopted in 2017, when they acquitted the ticket of Dilma Rousseff (PT) and Michel Temer (MDB), who “did not accept new evidence attached to the process ”.

“Thus, the slate was kept legal, although at that moment Mrs. Dilma Rousseff was no longer president, she had been impeached the previous year, and her political rights were maintained. And in this way, Mr. Michel Temer remained President of the Republic. And when something like that happens, jurisprudence is created. And the same thing should be done by the TSE, not accepting other possible evidence inserted. So, I understand that the same thing happens to me, ”he said.

The former president also stated that it is possible that a minister may ask for a review of the process, which is a period of up to 60 days for a more in-depth analysis of the records. The first minister to vote, according to Bolsonaro, should be Raul Araújo Filho, “known for being a jurist with a strong attachment to the law, there is a possibility that he will ask for a review and that helps to clarify the facts”.

Bolsonaro also contested that the acts of January 8 were an attempted coup d’état. “They put all of that on my account. But what kind of blow is this given on a Sunday and without anyone being deposed? What is this coup without a weapon, without an army? With little old ladies with flags and bibles under their arms”, he questioned.

Asked about a possible conviction by the TSE, Bolsonaro refuted the idea of ​​being without political rights. “I don’t want to discuss this possibility, I think I will only leave the country’s political scene when my mind and body no longer allow it. Or else because I went from that for the better ”, he completed.

Still during the interview, the former president stated that the trial will not end with the right in the country, and that the sympathizers “are people who woke up, who returned to sing the National Anthem with tears in their eyes, who defend the family and the property”.
