Bolsonaro criticizes Alexandre de Moraes before voting at the TSE – 06/29/2023 – Politics

Former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) said this Thursday (29) that he still hopes to have a turnaround in the judgment of the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) on his ineligibility. In conversation with journalists, in Rio de Janeiro, the ex-mandatory pinned the President of the Court, Alexandre de Moraes.

“Maybe Alexandre de Moraes has a moment when God touches his heart?”, said Bolsonaro, when answering about his expectations regarding the trial. He added: “So far it hasn’t played at any time”.

Bolsonaro’s trial will resume on Friday (30), after having the session suspended earlier this afternoon. Three ministers have already voted in favor of the former president losing his political rights. Only Raul Araújo was against the conviction.

Moraes is one of three magistrates who still need to vote, with ministers Cármen Lúcia and Kassio Nunes Marques – the latter, appointed by Bolsonaro. With a score of 3 votes to 1, there is only one more vote left to have a majority for ineligibility.

Asked about the scenario, Bolsonaro said: “the game is not over yet, let’s wait”.

The former representative spent the afternoon at the house of his son Carlos Bolsonaro (Republicans), councilor for Rio de Janeiro, in the Vivendas da Barra condominium, west of the city. The former president stated that he did not attend the trial and only saw the summary of some votes.

“I saw the summary of some votes. One of them said that I interfered in the election results. If I interfered, I had to have won, right? What interference did I have in the meeting with ambassadors? For God’s sake. A president which brings together ambassadors to talk about the electoral system. Is this a capital crime?”

Bolsonaro said he felt wronged by the trial and that he did not want to become ineligible. The former president stated that he intends to run for public office in the future, if not lose his political rights. One of the possibilities, according to him, would be to run for a seat in the Senate.

“I wouldn’t want to stop being eligible, even if I become a councilor in Rio de Janeiro. I’ve already talked to my son, I don’t want to take his place, no. I want to participate”, said Bolsonaro, who added: “I may in the future , if eligible, run for the Senate, with a good chance of going to that House. Now, a red card because I gathered the ambassadors? What was the charge? Abuse of political power? I thought it was economic”.
