Bolsonaro checks in early for early morning flight from Orlando to Brasilia – 03/29/2023 – Politics

Former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) has already checked in for his return flight to Brazil. The trip, with boarding in Orlando, will take place during the early hours of this Thursday (30) – disembarkation is scheduled to take place around 7 am in Brasilia.

Bolsonaro traveled to the US on December 30, 2022, the day before leaving the Presidency, and, breaking a democratic tradition, he did not pass the presidential sash to his successor, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

The Secretariat of Public Security of the Federal District prepares a special security scheme for the arrival of the former president.

With a series of actions that may result in the loss of his political rights, Bolsonaro will be judged by the Electoral Justice based on an ineligibility legislation that has hardened in the last decade.

Currently, the former president faces at least 16 investigation actions in the Electoral Justice that could make him ineligible. Members of the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) want to speed up the processing of these cases to analyze them by the middle of the year, as recently published in the Sheet.

Asked this month if he will try to run for the Planalto in 2026, Bolsonaro replied by stating that he is not the target of corruption accusations and mentioned the possibility of becoming ineligible by the TSE because of a meeting with ambassadors promoted last year in which he criticized, without evidence, the voting system.

“There is this possibility of ineligibility, yes. The question of imprisonment, only if it is arbitrary”, he said at the time.

The former president had already announced his return to Brazil on other occasions, always with setbacks.

Earlier this month, the former president’s eldest son, Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) announced on his social networks that his father would return to Brazil on the 15th. After 14 minutes, he made a new post retreating.
