Bolsonaristas earn the nickname ‘5th grade class’ at the January 8 CPI – 07/13/2023 – Panel

Bolsonarist deputies were nicknamed “the 5th grade class” by members of the government base, for trying to disrupt the work of the CPI on January 8. The expression is used to criticize what they see as childish behavior by parliamentarians.
The nickname is applied to deputies such as André Fernandes (PL-CE), Mauricio Marcon (Podemos-RS), Abilio Brunini (PL-MT) and Éder Mauro (PL-PA) —the latter two are not members of the collegiate. They usually make jokes and provoke government parliamentarians during their speeches.
Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG), who faces representation in the ethics council for breaking parliamentary decorum after transphobic speeches, has moderated his behavior in recent sessions, according to CPI members.
On Tuesday (11), Brunini was scolded by the chairman of the commission, Arthur Maia (União-BA), for filming and making fun of colleagues in the sessions. Afterwards, senator Rogério Carvalho (PT-SE) said he had heard a homophobic speech by Brunini regarding deputy Erika Hilton (PSOL-SP). The Bolsonarist denied having said that the parliamentarian was “offering services”, as reported by the PT.
