On International Women’s Day, the ox announced that it has always been at the forefront of the fight for women’s right to equality
Historically, women have always played a prominent role in the construction of the Boi-bumbá Caprichoso. On International Women’s Day, the two-time champion Bumbá of the Parintins Festival announced, during the opening ceremony of the round table “Female empowerment: in the gira do boi-bumbá”, the indigenous Gilvana Borari, the journalist Peta Cid and the historian Larice Butel as members of the Bumbá Art Council, which has always been at the forefront of the fight for gender equality.
The president of the Arts Council, Ericky Nakanome, highlighted the importance of this announcement, revealing that the councilors had already been performing their duties for around two months, but chose to make the announcement on this special day as a way of highlighting the role of women in the trajectory of Boi Caprichoso.
“We chose this date in a symbolic way to show that women, yes, should and can occupy all spaces within Boi Caprichoso”, stated Nakanome.
The return of Peta Cid, representative of the traditional Cid family, was highlighted by the president as a milestone, highlighting the commitment to the traditions and values of the ox. Larice Butel, a historian with a strong commitment to cultural activism, was also hailed for her expertise and passion for preserving local identity. And the presence of Gilvana Borari, an indigenous woman and representative of the Tapajonic culture, was described as fundamental to strengthening ties with the ancestral peoples and the cultural diversity of Caprichoso.
“We are looking for this participation from someone who is already in the process, who is already playing, who is already going to the arena to represent their culture”, explained Nakanome, highlighting the importance of integrating members who actively experience and defend the region’s cultural traditions.
