In a meeting on Friday (16), federal deputy Guilherme Boulos (PSOL) and the president of BNDES (National Bank for Economic and Social Development), Aloizio Mercadante, advanced on a project to create a line of credit for companies that produce or are interested in producing electric buses in Brazil.

One of the requirements will be that these companies use national components. A working group will be created in the coming weeks to format the criteria and values involved in the proposal.

In April, Boulos was in Santiago, Chile, which has one of the largest fleets of electric buses in Latin America. The parliamentarian has argued that, in addition to reducing carbon emissions, the electric transition of fleets also results in a decrease in noise pollution.

The issue should become the subject of dispute between the deputy and the mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes (MDB), in the 2024 municipal election.

The emedebista’s program of goals includes the prediction that 20% of the municipal fleet will be made up of electric buses by the end of next year, that is, around 2,600 vehicles of this type.

Also participating in Friday’s meeting were state deputy Emídio de Souza (PT) and BNDES director of Infrastructure, Energy Transition and Climate Change, Luciana Costa.
