Representatives of black sectors from nine parties released a joint note criticizing the proposed constitutional amendment that intends to grant amnesty for non-compliance with the transfer of the electoral fund proportionally to candidates of African descent and women.
“We are firm in the fight against the reproduction of racism in the political system and in Brazilian society and we are against this and any other measure that hinders the participation of the Brazilian black population in the spaces of power and in the decisions of the direction of our country”, he says. the document, signed by leaders of PT, PSB, PCdoB, PSOL, PDT, MDB, PV, PSDB and Pros.
The amendment is on the agenda at the House Constitution and Justice Committee, with a high chance of being approved. It would eliminate the risk of punishment for subtitles, especially fines.
The leaders claim that the share of blacks and women in Congress has been growing slowly, and that the division of the electoral fund plays an important role in this process.
“The Brazilian National Congress is mostly male (82% in the Chamber and 7% in the Senate) and white (82.2%, considering both houses). This reflects how far the main legislative houses are from the black and female population, the great majorities of the population”, say the party representatives.
