Bill of Fake News: read the entirety of the project presented – 04/27/2023 – Politics

The new text of the Bill of Fake News, under discussion in the Chamber of Deputies and with the report by federal deputy Orlando Silva (PC do B-SP), was filed on Thursday night (27), after negotiating adjustments with benches in the last days.
The expectation is that the merit will be voted in plenary next Tuesday (2). If approved, the proposal should return to the Senate, which endorsed the original text, in 2020, but it needs to evaluate the changes to follow the presidential sanction.
Among the highlights of the report are the removal of the creation of a regulatory agency to oversee compliance with the project’s rules, without determining how the application of the law would be monitored, and an excerpt protecting the free expression of religious cults.
The point was criticized by the opposition, which dubbed the body the “Ministry of Truth”. According to them, there could be a risk of ideological interference in the agency, with the removal of content from opponents.
The proposal also provides for payment, by the platforms, for the journalistic content used without this cost being passed on to the end user. Regarding the form of payment, the text points out that the agreement must be made between the platforms and the journalistic companies.
The PL vote gained strength in the Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) government after the coup attacks on January 8 and especially after the attacks on schools in São Paulo and Blumenau (SC).
