Big four from Rio have only made the Carioca semi-finals once in the last five years

That feeling that the entire qualifying phase of the Carioca Championship was just a warm-up for the big four to start deciding the title from the semifinals onwards no longer exists. What for many years was routine is now the exception. In the last five editions, in just one Flamengo, Vasco, Fluminense and Botafogo reached the final stage. The account already includes that of 2023, which saw the alvinegro leave the dispute this Wednesday, losing to Portuguesa and taking fifth place in the Guanabara Cup.

Botafogo, on the other hand, is the big one with the most difficulty in reaching the top positions. It has only been in the top four five times in the past decade.
