The duel marked the Asian organization and manauara’s career
Manaus (AM) – The Amazonian fighter Bibiano Fernandes recalled the rivalry with the Filipino Kevin Belingon in the ONE Championship. The duel marked the Asian organization and the career of the manauara who won three of the four meetings against his rival.
The day was January 23 of the year 2016, and Amazonian Bibiano Fernandes, began one of the biggest rivalries ever existing in the ONE Championship, when he faced Filipino Kevin Belingon, in an edition of the fight show held at Helong Stadium, in Changsha, Hunan, China.
“I fought Kevin four times and learned a lot from him. He is very fast, has a lot of agility and the experience I had with him was very good. For the first fight, I remember that I needed to evolve my wrestling to win. It was, without a doubt, a very good experience for my career”, explains the manauara, now a Canadian citizen.
Although the Filipino rival showed more agility and still had the difference of seven years between the two fighters, Bibiano showed why he was nicknamed ‘The Flash’, when he submitted his rival four minutes into the first round, connecting with a kimura.
In all, there were four fights, with three wins for the manauara and one for the Filipino. Thus accrediting the fight “Fernandes x Belingon” as one of the greatest in the organization.
In the chronological order of the fights between the Amazonian and the Filipino, it is a victory for Bibiano, one for Kevin (in November 2018) and two others, in a row (one in March and another in October 2019), for Bibiano Fernandes. The defeat, according to Fernandes, brought learning to the offspring of the Coroado neighborhood, east of Manaus.
“We need to live with defeat to learn. There is a competition there. That night, the night of his victory, he was well prepared. We had a great fight. Beautiful to look at and with questionable results. But the other two victories I had, in a row, showed that despite the organization enjoying the fight between the two of us, I do better”, ended the former champion Bibiano.
With stints at Jungle Fight, K-1, and Dream, the 42-year-old from Amazonas has 15 fights for the ONE Championship, with three losses and 12 wins.
