Bia Haddad’s historic classification in the round of 16 of the Grand Slam at Wimbledon guaranteed a prize of 207,000 pounds to the tennis player, about R$ 1.2 million. The Brazilian’s victory over Romanian Sorana Cirstea by 2 sets to 0 this Saturday (8) made it Bia’s best campaign at Wimbledon.
In 2017 and 2019, Bia reached the second round of the tournament. Now, the tennis player is the second Brazilian to go beyond the third round and qualify for the round of 16. The first was Maria Esther Bueno, who reached the round of 16 in 1976, without the feat being repeated until then.
Wimbledon increased its 2023 prize pool by 10% to £44.7 million. Prize amounts are the same for men’s and women’s singles champions. Those classified in first place earn 2.35 million pounds, about R$ 14 million and 2 thousand points in the ranking.
For those who lost in the first round, participation earned 55,000 pounds, equivalent to R$ 333,000.
In the next round, if you qualify for the quarterfinals, Bia Haddad can increase the prize to 340,000 pounds, about R$ 2 million. The finalists take more than 1 million pounds (about R$ 7 million).
