Silent during the 30 minutes of the meeting at the Rei Pelé Training Center, Eduardo Bauermann already imagined that the only possible outcome was his removal. The defender did not even make a defense and was removed from the professional squad, in a statement released by Santos this Tuesday morning (9).

In alleged conversations between the player and a gambler, via WhatsApp, he would have recognized that he received R$ 50,000 to take a yellow card in a match against Avaí, for the Brazilian Championship last year. He would not have complied with the agreement, but agreed to force an expulsion in the next round, against Botafogo. The player received red after the end of the match, which is not accepted by some bookmakers.

The dialogues were published by Veja magazine.

Guided by his lawyer, Bauermann decided not to comment.

Santos’ disappointment is because the defender had initially denied any participation in a match-fixing scheme and the managers took his word for it. The club even made its legal department available to its athlete.

His future at the association is considered difficult, according to people interviewed by Sheet. No deadline was given for him to be reincorporated into the cast, if that happens.

Bauremann received a salary adjustment in September of last year and started earning around R$ 180,000 a month.

To try to mitigate the fury of the gamblers, who would have lost BRL 800,000, according to the conversations disclosed, he would have committed to giving BRL 50,000 a month until he paid off the “debt”.

Following UOL, it would also have committed to transferring part of the money it would receive in a future sale abroad, which could happen at the end of this year.

He is one of the players who are in a new complaint presented by the Public Ministry of Goiás last Monday (8). The investigation encompasses games of the Brazilian Championship of series A and B of 2022 and state this year.

The breakdown takes place after analyzing the content of computers and cell phones seized in a previous phase of the Maximum Penalty, as the operation was named. For the Public Ministry, the leader of the group of gamblers is Bruno Lopes de Moura, a futsal athlete. According to prosecutor Fernando Cesconetto, another 16 people could still become defendants.

In the unfolding of the investigations, initiated from the complaint of the president of Atlético-GO, Adson Batista, new players started to be considered suspects. There are ten in total.

In the 13 matches investigated, in seven there are suspicions that athletes have received money to take yellow cards on purpose, another two for them to be expelled and four for penalties to be committed. Not all offers were accepted.

The Public Ministry wants the payment of R$ 2 million to the public coffers and cites “collective moral damages”. It also calls for the condemnation of all those involved.

Betting sites and clubs are considered victims in the process.
