Court battle dragged on for 22 years

A legal imbroglio between former soccer player Denilson and singer Belo dragged on for 22 years until it was resolved in July. However, soon after, the former athlete used social networks to declare that the matter was not yet closed. But now, everything should be resolved.

The two talked and resolved the issue, putting an end to the dispute. That’s what the former player guarantees.

“Singer Belo and I talked and, amicably, we reached an agreement. It is extremely important to emphasize to everyone that our disagreements were never personal, on the contrary, they were – and therefore no longer are – in the legal field”,

began Denilson in a post on Twitter, this Friday afternoon (11).

“As men, adults and professionals that we are, it was important to put an end to this imbroglio that had kept us apart for over 20 years. Today, with joy, we close this matter. Many thanks to everyone involved. Now it’s time to look forward… IT’S FINISHED!!!”,

Still in the early 2000s, Denílson bought the economic rights of Soweto, a pagode group that Belo was part of. A little over a year after the purchase, the singer left the band to pursue a solo career and the former player claimed breach of contract and started charging the contractual fine in court.

In 2004, Belo was sentenced to pay R$388,000 to Denílson, but he did not respect the court order and resisted the process for 22 years.
