Basic food basket prices rise in 10 capitals, says Dieese

The price of the basic food basket increased in 10 of the 17 Brazilian capitals in March, according to the National Survey of the Basic Food Basket, released in São Paulo, by the Inter-Union Department of Statistics and Socioeconomic Studies (Dieese).

According to the research, the biggest increases were recorded in Recife (5.81%), Fortaleza (5.66%), Natal (4.49%) and Aracaju (3.90%). The most significant reductions were observed in Rio de Janeiro (-2.47%), Porto Alegre (-2.43%), Campo Grande (-2.43%) and Belo Horizonte (-2.06%).

The most expensive basket in the country was found in São Paulo, where a set of basic foods cost, on average, R$813.26. Next are the baskets from Rio de Janeiro (R$ 812.25), Florianópolis (R$ 791.21) and Porto Alegre (R$ 777.43).

In cities in the North and Northeast, where the composition of the basket is different, the lowest average values ​​were recorded in Aracaju (R$ 555.22), João Pessoa (R$ 583.23) and Recife (R$ 592.19) .

When analyzing the value of the most expensive basket in the country, Dieese estimated that the ideal minimum wage should be R$6,832.20 in March, a value 4.84 times higher than the current minimum wage of R$1,412.00. *With information from Agência Brasil
