Manaus (AM) – A classic of world music and ballet, “Don Quixote” was staged this Wednesday night (07/12) on the stage of Teatro Amazonas. The assembly, which is part of the program of the Encontro das Águas Series, brought together the Amazonas Philharmonic – conducted by maestro Marcelo de Jesus – and Ballet Álvaro Gonçalves.
On the stage of Teatro Amazonas, Ballet Álvaro Gonçalves presented the original choreography, created by Marius Petipa and Alexander Gorsky. The Amazonas Philharmonic also performed the original music by Ludwig Minkus. The original montage premiered in 1869 in Russia.
“It was a big challenge to make the students understand this new process, of dancing with the orchestra. We usually dance to recorded music. This montage of ours is the original of the Mariinsky Theater, it has not been adapted. It is a very special ballet. People laugh, get emotional”,
said Álvaro Gonçalves, dancer, choreographer and owner of the school that bears his name from which the company that performed at the Teatro Amazonas emerged.
As the unusual is one of the most striking characteristics of the Encontro das Águas series, this montage of “Don Quixote” has more than one cast. Belarte Amazonas takes turns with Ballet Álvaro Gonçalves in the presentations of the ballet, which will still be staged on Friday (07/14), Saturday (07/15) and Sunday (07/16), always at 8 pm.
Happiness
For maestro Marcelo de Jesus, creator of the Encontro das Águas Series and conductor of the show, “Don Quixote” represents joy within the range of sensations that the presentations of the series evoke. This year’s Encontro das Águas series has diversity as its theme.
“’Don Quixote’ brings us the joy of this diversity. It’s a ballet that’s a party. The music is super explosive, the ballet is super explosive, there’s no downfall. It is the second classical ballet that is performed in Amazonas with an orchestra, a complete ballet”,
says Marcelo de Jesus.
The maestro also highlights the fact that the montage brings the famous choreography of “Don Quixote”. “It’s the original choreography. This is very important historically because, in this way, we enter the list of theaters that perform classical ballet, such as the Municipal Theater of Rio de Janeiro. So, it’s Teatro Amazonas entering this classical ballet environment”,
said the conductor.
On vacation in Manaus, Paulo Henrique Félix found out about the show through the Teatro Amazonas account on Instagram. “I really like absorbing the culture of the place when I travel on vacation. I found out on Instagram, on the theater page. I like to have this experience of cultural activities in other regions”, says Paulo Henrique, who is from Imperatriz, in Maranhão.
