Azul leads landings at the main entrance to the USA – 05/12/2023 – Panel SA

Azul surpassed Latam in passengers departing from Brazil to Miami (Florida), the main gateway for Brazilians to enter the United States. Latam historically dominated this market among national players, having even rivaled American Airlines.

According to data from Anac (National Civil Aviation Agency), in the first quarter of this year, Azul registered 48,800 passengers bound for Fort Lauderdale airport, neighboring Miami (about 45 km away from Miami Beach). It is there that Azul has operated its flights for years. Latam, in the same period, registered 45,600 passengers disembarking at Miami International Airport. Gol comes in a distant third place (13.6 thousand).

The panorama is different from that seen before the pandemic. In the first quarter of 2019, Latam took more than 90,000 passengers to Miami, while Azul registered just over 35,000. Latam recovered in the post-pandemic and, despite the more modest numbers than those seen before the health crisis, it was ahead of Azul until last year.

The inversion of positions is due to the increase in trips. While Latam reduced routes, Azul opened flights from Belém, Manaus and Recife to Fort Lauderdale.
