Azul Linhas Aéreas announced, on Monday afternoon (15), that it had started operating flights to Assunção, Paraguay, from four Brazilian cities: Campinas (Viracopos), Curitiba, Florianópolis and Recife.

The start of operations is scheduled for December, with Embraer E-2 aircraft, with capacity for 136 passengers, or Airbus A320, for 174 passengers.

Currently, the Paraguayan capital has between two and three daily flights to Brazil, all of them operated by Gol and Latam departing from Guarulhos airport, in São Paulo.

Azul has not yet released flight times and frequencies. The company only informed that flights departing from Viracopos and Curitiba will be regular, while those from Florianópolis and Recife will be seasonal – operated only during the high summer season.

“This new route arose from a provocation by Embratur, which convinced us that the connection with the country could be better studied and developed”, said Vitor Silva, planning and strategy manager at Azul, during the announcement of the new route. route, at a tourism event in São Paulo.

Also present in the announcement, the president of Embratur, Marcelo Freixo, highlighted the importance of Paraguay as a source of tourists. According to him, in 2023 there was a 19% increase in the flow of Paraguayans to Brazil, which became the fourth largest source of tourists to Brazil. “This flow, however, happens mainly by land,” he said.

Asunción will be the eighth international destination on Azul’s network, which also flies to Orlando and Miami, in the USA; Punta del Este and Montevideo, in Uruguay; Paris, France; Lisbon, in Portugal and Curaçao, in the Caribbean. The company has not yet announced
