O Avai announced the departure of coach Alex de Souzaafter the 3-0 defeat by Vila Nova, in the middle of a hangover, last Wednesday night (3).
With just three points added in the first four rounds, the team from Santa Catarina recorded the worst start of Série B since the competition started to be played in consecutive points, in the current format, in 2006.
“Today Alex is not coming to the press conference, there is no interview. We reached a common agreement and ended the work of the professional here in Avai”, said the club’s president, Júlio Heerdt, shortly after the defeat to Vila Nova.
Coritiba idol, Alex leaves Avai in his first job leading a professional team with low performance. In 18 matches, he had six wins, four draws and eight defeats – 40% of the points earned.
Before the bad start in Série B, Avaí had been eliminated by Criciúma in the quarterfinals of the Campeonato Catarinense and fell to Retrô in the first phase of the Copa do Brasil. Before taking over at Avai, Alex had coached the Under-20 team at São Paulo.
