The president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), Minister Alexandre de Moraes, said this Wednesday (1st) that “absolutely everyone involved” in acts of vandalism in Brasília “will be held accountable” in the civil, political and criminal spheres. The declaration was made during the opening of the works of the Electoral Court.
“The despicable terrorist attacks on democracy and republican institutions will be held responsible, as well as the financiers, instigators and previous and, eventually, current conniving public agents and criminals, who continue in the illicit conduct of the practice of anti-democratic acts”, said the minister.
Moraes classified those involved in the invasion and depredation of the headquarters of the Three Powers as “extremists, criminals, and true terrorists against democracy”. For the minister, the acts of vandalism took place in “circumstances that could only occur with the consent and even effective participation of public authorities responsible for public security and intelligence, since the organization of the alleged demonstrations was a notorious and known fact”.
The magistrate pointed out that the “omission and connivance of several previous and current authorities were and are being demonstrated in the investigations”.
“Absolutely nothing can justify the existence of camps full of criminals, with weapons, sponsored by various financiers and with the complacency of civil and military authorities,” he said. Moraes also stated that “Brazilian democracy will no longer support the ignoble policy of appeasement, of ‘let it go'”.
“The financiers, supporters and political agents who behaved intentionally, cowardly agreeing with the breakdown of democracy and the installation of a state of exception will be held accountable”, he reinforced.
