The fourth edition of the Audálio Dantas Trophy will be dedicated to six journalists recognized for their work on issues of social injustice. Highlighting “indignation, courage, hope”, the ceremony will take place on June 6, starting at 7 pm, in an auditorium at the City Hall of São Paulo.
The honorees are Bruno Paes Manso, co-author of the book “The War: The Rise of the PCC and the World of Crime in Brazil”; Gregório Duvivier, co-founder of the Porta dos Fundos collective and host of the Greg News (HBO) show; Juliana Dal Piva, author of the book “O Negócios do Jair: A História Proibida do Clan Bolsonaro”; Leonardo Sakamoto, founder of the NGO Repórter Brasil, dedicated to reporting human rights violations; Rene Silva, founder of the newspaper Voz das Comunidades, dedicated to covering stories from the periphery; and Valmir Salaro, a special reporter for Fantástico (TV Globo), who stars in the documentary “Escola Base: A Reporter Faces the Past”.
The first edition of the award honored Audálio Dantas himself, known as the reporter who revealed Carolina Maria de Jesus and participated in the ecumenical act by Vladmir Herzog, in 1975. The trophy —sculpture by Roger Matua based on a drawing by Laerte— received the journalist’s name after his death in 2018.
Curated by the Kunc Dantas family and Oboré Projetos Especiais, the event will also celebrate Journalist’s Day, celebrated on April 7th, and the National Press Freedom Day, June 7th.
