Current world champion, Brazilian sprinter Alison dos Santos, also known as Piu, won the silver medal in the first 400-metre hurdles event of the Diamond League season, the main track and field circuit on the planet. This Friday (21), in the Principality of Monaco, the man from São João da Barra (SP) completed the 400m hurdles, a test in which he is a specialist, in 47s66. The gold went to the Norwegian Karsten Warholm who completed the route in 46s51, breaking the competition record. The American CJ Allen (47s84) came in third place and took bronze.
Alison returned to the slopes last Sunday (16), at the Diamond League stage in Poland, after 10 months recovering from surgery on her right knee. And already in the first dispute, the 400m dash, Piu obtained the index to compete in the World Cup in Budapest (Hungary), from August 19th to 27th, when he ended the course with a time of 44s73, which guaranteed him bronze.
Cycle to Paris 2024
There are two ways for athletes to secure an Olympic berth at the Paris Games: by achieving the indices established by the events in the qualifying period or by the world ranking of World Athletics (acronym for the International Athletics Federation). Points tallying began on July 1st and runs until June 30th, 2024. In individual events, up to three athletes per country will be allowed.
The World Cup in Budapest (Hungary), in August, and the national tournaments (Troféu Brasil) are the main competitions for athletes to seek the Olympic index for individual events.
