Athletico 100 years: Taíco, goalscorer from the golden era

There is a historical coincidence that has not yet been satisfactorily theorized, but which is undeniable in light of the facts: whenever the Brazilian team excited the people, Athletico did a great job.
It started with the 1950 team, which defeated rivals such as the contemporary Furacão. Twenty years later, Canarinho’s 4-1 in the final against Italy was replicated weeks later by Sicupira and co. Even the brilliant but defeated teams of 1982 and 2006 rose and fell in step with historic CAP teams.
A tradition that began in 1958 when a wind of civilizational modernity blew across the country. Between August and November, while the country watched the rise of Juscelino Kubistchek to the sound of bossa nova, Athletico racked up victories and won the title from start to finish.
A team that had the legendary Geraldino, my future colleague and idol Boluca, the stars Sano and Tocafundo, the striker Gaivota and the pointer Isabelino. And the decisive goals from the elegant and relentless goalscorer Taico.
The center forward was the symbol of the coffee era in local football; when, in the wake of the commodity, teams from the north of the state revealed and maintained the main local stars.
Taíco started at Clube Atlético Monte Alegre, owned by Telêmaco Borba. He was Paraná’s top scorer in two seasons (1952 and 1955) and for years a member of the Paraná national team, an important institution in those days.
He arrived at Athletico in 1957 to be the missing piece in the team curiously commanded by a triple technical committee made up of legends Cashew It is Jackson and by director Pedro Stenghel Guimarães to make history in Baixada.
