Athlete from Humaitá is invited to the Amazonense Sub-16 Basketball Team

Humaitá (AM) – Maria Alice Molina, 15 years old, is the new bet on the Amazon Basketball courts. The student from the Escola Estadual de Governador Plínio Ramos Coelho GM3, in Humaitá (590 kilometers from Manaus), stood out in the Sub-16 selections and was invited to compose the team that represents the State in regional and national competitions.

The young woman participates in the Novo Basquete Humaitá (NBH) project, developed in the municipality since 2021, and says she is proud to represent her city.

“I am very happy with this opportunity, it is a dream that I have had since I was 12 years old and I am ecstatic to be the first person from Humaita to achieve such a feat, that is why I intend to dedicate myself more and more every day to stand out in my category” , said the teenager.

The creator of the NBH project, Eliedo Souza, stated that the young woman is different and that the project enabled her to learn the sport.

“We teachers only polish the treasures. Maria Alice has the gift and in the project we gave her the basis, but it is noticeable how much she has the differential and is dedicated to going further and further in the sport”, highlighted the coach.

Investment

The Secretary of State for Education and Sports, Kuka Chaves, highlighted that sport makes a difference in social intervention projects. According to the portfolio holder, it is important that education and sport go hand in hand.

“Sport cannot be separated. It has to be part of our students’ routine. Health is allied to food, sports and our way of life, ”he said.

Kuka Chaves also emphasized the interest and encouragement that the governor of Amazonas has given to sports projects.

“Governor Wilson Lima is a sportsman and he has never said “no” to any activity or sports project that we have. It is essential that we have a different look at these athletes who have great potential, ”he said.

About the project

Created in 2021, Novo Basquete Humaitá (NBH) is a non-profit project, aimed at children and young people practicing the sport with a specialist teacher. In two years, the initiative has already reached at least 200 young people and is beginning to reap the rewards of encouraging sports in the municipality.

In addition to the young Maria Alice, the student André Luiz Ferreira also participated in the selections to compose the Amazon Basketball Team. Even not being selected, the athlete is already starting to walk a successful path in the sport.

“Participating in the tryouts here in the capital opened new possibilities for me. I began to realize that this championship was very rewarding and that I learned many things”, reflects André Luiz.
