Jair Paulino is the first Amazonian to win the Brazilian title in the sport

Through Bolsa Sport and the Amazonas project at the Paris 2024 Olympics, the Government of Amazonas has promoted outstanding athletes in national and international competitions. And in support of the professional category, Jair Paulino, Jajá do Wake, is the first Amazonian to win the title of Brazilian Wakeboard Champion, the indigenous athlete has accumulated more than 30 titles.

“This achievement is the result of the athlete’s commitment, combined with the continued encouragement of the Wilson Lima government. With the strengthening of public policies focused on sport in our region, we have paved the way for the training of young talents like Jajá do Wake”,

emphasized Jorge Oliveira, Secretary of State for Sports and Leisure (Sedel).

The 18-year-old athlete, from the Karapãna ethnic group, was highlighted in the competition held on September 29th and 30th, at Lake Paranoá, in Brasília. In the PRO category, Jajá beat four opponents with a score of 90.11, leaving Henrique Daibert in second place, with 85.22 points.

“This achievement of the ranking and the two Brazilian stages for my professional life is very important, because I am competing at the highest level in Brazil and that is very gratifying. I feel like I’m on the right path, as I’m advancing in the sport and training hard to win more titles”,

said Jair Paulino.

Since 2019, Jajá has been part of the Brazilian Wakeboard Team, representing the country in prestigious competitions around the world. His successful journey includes seventh place at the Wakeboard World Championships in Abu Dhabi, when he was just 14 years old, and runner-up in the world championship in Italy in 2022, at 17 years old.

In August this year, Jajá made history as the first Amazonian to win a stage of the Brazilian Wakeboard Championships at home, on the banks of the Tarumã River, in Manaus. Furthermore, in September, in a fierce dispute with opponents from different countries, the Amazonian reached first place in the World Wakeboard Championship (WWA), in Portugal, in the Jr Men category, representing Brazil and Amazonas.
