At an MST event, Lewandowski calls the movement an “example” and criticizes “bourgeois liberal democracy”

Participating in an event by the Landless Rural Workers Movement this Saturday (11), Minister Ricardo Lewandowski, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), pointed out that “bourgeois liberal” democracy is in crisis and classified the movement’s schools as “a example” of what “organized people are capable of”.

According to the MST, representatives of the Brazilian Association of Jurists for Democracy (ABJD), the Union of Lawyers of São Paulo, the National Council of Justice (CNJ) and Transforma MP, were also present in Guararema, in the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo. among other entities. Other participants were members of the federal government and lawyers linked to the PT.

“I want to start by saying that many have called me excellent, but I want to say that excellence is the Brazilian people. Visiting the MST School [Escola Nacional Florestan Fernandes], I realized what organized people are capable of. And the school is an example of that”, said Lewandowski, who will compulsorily retire from the STF in May, when he will turn 75.

Commenting on the theme of the event, which the MST said was “reaffirming the defense of democracy and popular participation in Brazil”, the STF minister claimed that the participants had “a common world view”.

“Everything changes, everything transforms, but we need to have a north, values, principles and a worldview, or an ideology. What unites us is a common worldview. A vision in which the people are masters of their destiny, with the objective of building a more just, egalitarian and more fraternal society”, stated Lewandowski. “Each one here has his trench and is fighting for the realization of what we believe to be democracy.”

The STF minister also defended that the labor and social security reforms should be submitted to a referendum and criticized what he called “bourgeois liberal” democracy.

“Democracy is in crisis, everyone says so. But what is in crisis, in fact, is representative democracy, bourgeois liberal, party democracy, in which, I am sure, none of us feels adequately represented. These successive crises have a deep root, which is the political system that, in fact, does not represent us”, said Lewandowski.
