Bank branches across the country are back up and running this Ash Wednesday (22), starting at noon, after being closed because of Carnival. The closing of the office will be done according to the usual schedule, which varies according to the municipality.
With the resumption, the deposits of Auxílio Brasil and Auxílio Gás will be made again from this Wednesday. In the case of the INSS (National Social Security Institute), the payment schedule for retirees and pensioners restarts on Thursday (23).
In places where branches normally close before 3 pm, the start of the day will be anticipated. The intention is to guarantee a minimum of three hours of face-to-face service to the public, according to Febraban (Brazilian Federation of Banks).
Banks were closed on Carnival Monday and Tuesday, in accordance with the 2020 resolution of the CMN (National Monetary Council), which does not consider these dates as working days for banking services.
Throughout the year, there will be at least another ten days without service in the banking network. Nine of them will be bank holidays in accordance with the national holiday schedule, in addition to the interruption of public service on December 29, the last day of the year, when branches are closed.

How are bill payments
Consumption bills such as water, electricity, telephone and gas bills, in addition to bills due on national holidays, can be paid, without interest or penalty, on the following business day. Normally, the taxes already come with dates adjusted to the holiday calendar, but, if there is no such adjustment, Febraban advises the consumer to schedule the payment.
In addition, even with branches closed to the public, it is possible to carry out operations through ATMs. It is also recommended to use the internet bank, by computer, cell phone or tablet, or by telephone.
The bank slips of registered customers can be paid via DDA (Authorized Direct Debit).
