Army retains position of military cited by the PF – 06/19/2023 – Politics

The commander of the Army, General Tomás Paiva, decided to wait for the judicial developments before taking administrative measures against the active duty military cited in a Federal Police report on the cell phones of Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid.

The assessment, according to Tomás’ interlocutors heard by the Sheet, is that it is not possible with the report alone to analyze the conduct of each soldier. As a result, the internal decision is to cooperate with the investigations and act only after the cases have been passed through the courts.

Generals claim, however, that the investigated military personnel should have more difficulty progressing in their careers and reaching the generalship, since the case has become an embarrassment for the military leadership.

“Only after having official knowledge of the aforementioned facts will it be possible to assess the situation and adopt any necessary administrative measures”, the Force said in a note.

A Sheet identified 11 active-duty military personnel in the Federal Police report. They are officers who exchanged messages with Cid, were mentioned by other military personnel or expressed themselves in a WhatsApp group.

All officers were sought by the report. Colonel Gian Demario da Silva replied that the group is old and only maintains “conversations and opinions”. Cid’s defense said it will only manifest itself in the case file. The others did not manifest.

Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid

A former assistant to Jair Bolsonaro (PL), he was assigned to the Land Operations Command. He was responsible for leading the Ground Force Preparedness. He has been in prison since May, suspected of tampering with vaccination cards for the former president, his wife, Gabriela Cid, and daughters, with the aim of traveling to the United States.

Cid’s lawyers stated that “out of respect for the Federal Supreme Court, all defensive statements will only be made in the case file”.

Lieutenant Colonel Marcelino Haddad Aquino Carneiro

He graduated from Aman (Agulhas Negras Military Academy) in 2000, the same class as Cid, and was promoted to lieutenant colonel in 2020. He holds a command position at the Reserve Officers Preparation Center in Rio de Janeiro.

According to the PF report, Haddad sent on November 16, 2022 to a WhatsApp group of which Cid is a part, three documents about the possibility of the Armed Forces acting as a kind of moderating power.

According to investigators, the documents may have given legal basis for an attempted coup.

Lieutenant Colonel Fabiano da Silva Carvalho

He was a colleague of Cid and Haddad at Aman. At the beginning of the month, he assumed command of the 17th Border Brigade, in Corumbá (MS).

He is only mentioned in the Federal Police report for having exchanged emails with lawyer Ives Gandra Martins, in 2017, when he was writing an article about the role of the Armed Forces as guarantors of the Constitutional Powers.

Colonel Jean Laland Junior

Ranked first in the Aman class of 1996, he is supervisor of the Strategic Astros Program at the Army General Staff Office of Projects.

Lawand is Cid’s main interlocutor in the messages highlighted by the Federal Police in the report sent to the STF (Federal Supreme Court). He insistently asks the then assistant to guide Bolsonaro to strike against democracy: “Convince 01 to save this country!”, He wrote in one of the conversations.

According to the messages exchanged, the Army decided to annul Lawand’s appointment to occupy a position at the Brazilian embassy in the United States.

Lieutenant Colonel Jorge Alexandre Oliveira de Medeiros de Souza

He was promoted to his current post in 2021. Before, he worked in the 12th Military Region, in Amazonas, when general and former minister Eduardo Pazuello commanded the unit.

He was part of the “Dosssss!!!” group, made up mostly of active duty military. Jorge Alexandre only sent two messages among those highlighted by the PF. One is the announcement that the general officers chosen by Lula to command the Forces would take office in December.

Colonel Gian Dermario da Silva

Graduated from Aman in 1996, Gian is currently commander of the Special Operations Instruction Center, where Special Forces are trained, considered the most radical wing of the Army.

In the messages of the “Dosssss!!!” group, he states that he expected “action on the part of the PR and FA” against Lula’s election in the next few days.

Gian also says that he intended to place “a lot of emphasis” in the Special Forces training course on issues related to “globalism/socialist progressivism”. For him, the Army knew how to defeat the left, but “we were tied to POLITICAL CORRECT”.

wanted by Sheet, Gian said that there is nothing much in the exchanges of messages. “This is a very old group, with more than ten years of conversations and opinions. By chance the military is in it. That’s all,” he wrote.

Colonel Anderson Corrêa dos Santos

He took over his current post in 2020, after serving for more than a year in command of the Special Operations Support Battalion, in Goiânia. He worked at the federal intervention office in Rio de Janeiro in 2018.

In the WhatsApp group, he made few interventions highlighted by the PF. He said he could be wrong, but “I think we’re heading towards a very strong internal crisis.”

“The institutional break has already occurred a long time ago. Everything that is done now, by the PR, FA and everything else, will not stop the revolution of the people who got tired of all this”.

Colonel Rodrigo Lopes Braganca Silva

He was promoted to colonel in 2022. He is a cavalry officer, assigned to the Preparatory School for Army Cadets.

In messages exchanged in the WhatsApp group, Rodrigo encourages colleagues to sign a letter from superior officers to the commander of the Brazilian Army. It is an apocryphal text, with a coup-like tone and written in the wake of anti-democratic camps in front of the barracks, according to the Sheet revealed

“And then, now we will all put the name on that list there, right?”, he said. “Or we will be lions of Zap”, he added.

Lieutenant Colonel Helio Ferreira Lima

Ferreira Lima worked at the GSI (Institutional Security Office) in the Bolsonaro government and returned to the Army to command the 3rd Special Forces Company, in Manaus (AM).

It is one of the most active in the WhatsApp group. He complains that the Armed Forces would not commit to the Lula government because “it was too nice for us to be just that”.

“Guaranteed salary, warrior with absolute certainty not to fight, one escape or another earning well out there … it was too good for us to want to leave that comfort”, he wrote.

Colonel Marcio Nunes de Resende Junior

Graduated from Aman in 1996, Marcio was commander of the 1st Logistic Battalion of Selva, in Boa Vista (RR). Today he is on the General Staff of the Army.

In the group, he endorses the speech that there was electoral fraud. “If we don’t have the courage to face the head of an egg and an electoral fraud, who are we going to face???”.

Marcio also said that “if Bolsonaro calls 142, there will be no general to hold the troops. Either he participates or asks to leave!!!”.

Colonel Felipe Guimaraes Rodrigues

Graduated from Aman in 1997, Felipe was commander of the 63rd Infantry Battalion in Florianópolis (SC). Today, he serves as a parliamentary adviser to the Army in the Senate.

In the group, send only one message. “Other braggarts… were unable to stop a clear electoral fraud within their territory !!!”, he said, without making it clear whether the reference was to the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) or to the military who participated in the inspection of the electoral process.
