As you can see the paintings sitting down on the hammock and as you don’t have to see them all at once, the Rijksmuseum gave the world a true Vermeer Bag. It doesn’t hurt to remember that the painter led a hard life. He raised 11 children, died a ruin at the age of 43, and very little is known about his life. One of his patrons was a baker. For centuries Vermeer was so underrated that they put the names of others on his canvases. His “The Concert”, stolen from a Boston museum, was never seen again. It would be worth $250 million.
