A man died on Saturday (3) after being stabbed during a fight in a Buenos Aires stadium, where a professional game in the second division of Argentine football was taking place.
The victim was involved in a fistfight in the stands at the end of the first half between the home team, Chacarita, and Deportivo Maipú. According to the Argentine newspaper Clarín, the police have already identified the killer, a 31-year-old man from the city of Villa Ballest, in the province of Buenos Aires.
Authorities ruled out that the incident could be related to clashes between rival factions of the club, something common in Argentine football, which has recorded more than 300 deaths in its professional history, according to the NGO Salvemos al Fútbol, which works against violence in sport.
“This is a completely isolated incident, which has no relation to factions or organized fans. From what we were able to determine, it was the result of excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages and drugs,” Guillermo Cimadevila, head of the Violence Prevention Agency, told the press. in Sport.
