Arco Norte ports export 37% of the soy sold in the country – 08/22/2023 – Vaivém

The ports of Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul were the ones that had the greatest evolution in the share of national soybean exports this year. Brazil placed a record 72.5 million tons of soybeans from January to July this year.

Although with a much smaller volume than that of the main oilseed producers, the two states of the extreme south participated with 10% of the exported volume, a percentage higher than the 7.5% of the same period last year.

Rio Grande do Sul, according to data from Secex, increased the volume of exports by 35% this year, while Mato Grosso, the national leader, had an evolution of 11% in the period.

Arco Norte ports continue to be important in terms of soy and corn output. Until July, there were 27.1 million tons of soy, 37.3% of what the country exported, a share, however, smaller than the 38.5% of last year.

The port of Santos (SP) also has a smaller share. 26.2 million tons left through the port of São Paulo, 36.1% of the total sold by Brazil. Last year, participation had been 37.8%.
The same occurs with the port of Paranaguá (PR), which had a drop in the share of exports to 11% this year.

In corn output, due to the strong presence of the Midwest in the sector, the ports of Arco Norte evolved a lot this year, accounting for 40% of the cereal flow. The ports of Santos and Paranaguá had reductions to 27% and 17%, respectively.

Brazil exported 15.9 million tons of corn until July, and Mato Grosso was responsible for 7.8 million of that volume.

Fuel price volatility, marketing delays and greater demand for transportation are driving up freight prices, a trend that should continue in the coming months.

The shipment of a ton of soy from Sorriso (MT) to Santos, a distance of 2,171 km, rose to R$ 520 in July, 5% more than in the same month of 2022, according to data from Conab (Companhia Nacional de Abastecimento ).

From Sorriso to Miritituba (PA), 1,071 km, the cost of transporting a ton was R$ 320, up 3% compared to the same month last year.

Education The Northeast has good conditions to grow in agricultural productivity, due to the soil, stable temperature and sun. This evolution, however, involves improvements in the education system and in social organizations.
