Apple studies manufacturing domestic robots – 04/03/2024 – Tech

Apple engineers are studying the manufacture of domestic robots, according to information released this Wednesday (3), weeks after the company abandoned plans to develop an electric car.

The American technology giant is working on a robot that could follow people inside their homes, according to Bloomberg, which cites anonymous sources. The iPhone maker has also reportedly developed a desktop device that uses robotics to move its screen.

The project is in its early stages and it is unclear whether it will result in a product sold by Apple. The company did not respond to contact made by AFP.

The Californian company is looking for new sources of revenue beyond iPhones, content and digital services. It recently abandoned its plan to produce its own electric car, ending a decade-long project.

Apple has never publicly announced its plan to develop an electric car, although leaks have occurred over the years.

According to reports, the company has transferred employees from that automobile division to generative artificial intelligence (AI) projects. The personal robot project is overseen by Apple’s hardware engineering division and its AI and machine learning unit, according to Bloomberg.

The news comes as analysts await the announcement of Apple’s advances in AI at the annual WWDC developer meeting, which takes place in June.
