Apple denies violating the court order in Epic Games action – 04/13/2024 – Tech

Apple, the maker of the iPhone, denied on Friday (12) violating a court order regarding the App Store and urged a federal judge in California to reject a request from Epic Games. This game developer, responsible for the game Fortnite, considers that the iPhone manufacturer has defied orders.

Apple made the arguments in a filing addressed to U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers in Oakland. In the 2020 lawsuit, Epic Games accused Apple of violating antitrust law with its strict controls on how consumers download apps and pay for transactions within them.

In court filings, Apple criticized what it called Epic’s attempt to make “Apple tools and technologies available to developers for free.” According to the company, Epic wanted the court to “micromanage Apple’s business operations in a way that increases its own profitability.”

Epic said it would not comment, and Apple did not respond to a request for comment on the dispute, which is part of a long-running fight between the two companies.

In much of the case against Apple, Epic lost. However, in 2021, Rogers ordered Apple to give developers greater freedom to guide app users about alternative payment methods for digital products.
