Remote classes for students enrolled in schools that have had their activities suspended

During a meeting of the Intersectoral Committee to Combat the Environmental Emergency Situation, this Tuesday (10/10), the governor of Amazonas, Wilson Lima, announced that students enrolled in schools that had their activities suspended due to the drought will have classes without in-person classes through the “Class at Home – Drought Season 2023” project starting next week and the reinforcement of the sending of humanitarian aid to those affected by the drought in the state.

It is expected that more than 100,000 families will be affected and will receive humanitarian aid, such as the sending of basic food baskets, hygiene kits, drinking water and medicines. The governor also highlighted that the State also follows a schedule for delivering Merenda em Casa kits to contribute to students’ food security. More than 4 thousand students have had their classes suspended and are receiving food.

The edition of the Aula em Casa project is supported by Resolution No. 121, of the State Education Council of Amazonas (CEE-AM), from October this year. The measure seeks to mitigate the impacts caused by drought on the school year of students from rural communities in the state and is a project carried out by the State Department of Education and School Sports.

The new season of “Aula Em Casa” will have as its guiding pedagogical material the “Study Guides” and “Guidance Guides”, produced by the Department of Education. Students and teachers will receive, in physical form, printed booklets, which will contain specific content for the 3rd and 4th semester. This Tuesday (10), the Seduc pedagogical teams finalize the production of the material, which will be sent to school representatives across the state.

The materials will focus on teachers and students in the Initial Years (1st to 5th year), Final Years (6th to 9th year), High School, Youth and Adult Education (EJA) and Mediated Education.

Snack at Home

As of this Monday (09), 4,103 students in the state network were already impacted by the drought. The delivery schedule for Merenda Em Casa food kits began on October 2nd. “The governor’s determination is that we deliver and that we cannot run out of food for these students”said Education Secretary Kuka Chaves.

Deliveries began in the municipalities of Alvarães, Amaturá, Benjamin Constant, Beruri, Careiro da Várzea, Envira, Itacoatiara, Manacapuru, Manaquiri, Novo Aripuanã, Parintins, São Sebastião do Uatumã, Tefé and Tonantins. The delivery schedule continues to be implemented.

Humanitarian help

To facilitate the logistics of distributing these materials, the State will pass on basic food baskets to city halls or directly to impacted families. This Wednesday (11) aid arrives in the municipalities of Caapiranga, Manacapuru and Manaquiri, with 1 thousand baskets for each city; and Alvarães (1 thousand baskets) and Tefé (2 thousand baskets) next. Next, the plan is to deliver 7,000 basic food baskets to the municipalities in the Alto Solimões region.

“We have logistical planning in such a way that we can serve all municipalities with a reasonable quantity”,

explained the Executive Secretary of Civil Defense, Colonel Francisco Máximo.

At the Committee meeting, the governor also announced the release of around R$3 million in resources from the Floresta em Pé Fund, from the German bank KFW, with the execution of the Fundação Amazonas Sustentável (FAS), to purchase water and food for the communities most affected areas of Amazonas Conservation Units.

At the request of the State Government, a transfer of R$61 million will be made by the Federal Government so that municipalities can purchase drinking water, basic food baskets and fuel.
