Anfavea (association of automakers) chose Brasília as the venue for its symposium on electrification, held this Wednesday (14). The event marks the rapprochement between the entity and the government.
Although the 40 electric cars on display at the event draw attention, ethanol, once again, is in the spotlight.
Márcio de Lima Leite, president of the association, said that there are plans to grant bonuses to consumers who opt for renewable fuel. The idea is to offer something similar to the frequent flyer programs offered by credit cards and airlines.
It is a way to encourage the use of alcohol, which loses space because it is less attractive than gasoline in most states, due to the lower yield. There are, however, environmental advantages compared to fossil fuels.
As for electric cars, Leite said that the most important thing is to have predictability to attract new investments. Today, only the Chinese companies GWM and BYD, which are not participating in the event in Brasília, have already confirmed projects for local production in this segment.
“Brazil points to a possible surplus of energy in the coming years. We have infrastructure challenges, but we also have opportunities”, stated the president of Anfavea.
The stimulus for less polluting cars should gain strength with the bill for fuels, which has been called the bill of the future by the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira.
According to the minister, the bill will bring together different decarbonization initiatives, including the Rota 2030 program, in effect today.
Although talking about the future of electrification, Anfavea keeps its eyes on the present and prepares a balance sheet on sales since the beginning of price reduction measures.
Leite said that the results should start to appear next week, after the necessary period for licensing the units sold. According to data from Mdic (Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade in Services), 30% of the planned credit has already been requested by companies.
Nine automakers joined the program that seeks to reduce car prices. Together, they offer 31 vehicles divided into 233 versions.
