After more than five months recovering from surgery on her left shoulder, Olympic champion Ana Marcela Cunha won bronze in the Soma Bay (Egypt) stage of the Aquatic Marathon World Cup. Eyes on Paris 2024
The Games will bring together 44 athletes in the aquatic marathon – six less than in Tokyo – equally divided between men and women. Each country may be represented by only two athletes per gender. Qualifying will take place at the Worlds in July.
Swimmers will have only two opportunities to seek a spot in Paris 2024: the World Championships in Fukuoka (Japan) – starting in July – and in Doha (Qatar), in February next year. In Japan, the top three finishers in the 10 km race will be nominally guaranteed in Paris.
The World Cup in Doha, on the other hand, allocates vacancies to the Olympic Committee of each country for the top 13 in the competition, both in the women’s competition and in the men’s competition. In addition, five places will be at stake, one for each continent, for the best placed athletes in the 10 km race.
